Cut demerit points with new safe driving course to be launched in November

SINGAPORE- From Nov 1 , the Traffic Police will introduce the Safe Driving Course (SDC) as an enhancement to its Driver Improvement Points System.

The SDC aims to educate motorists on safe driving techniques, correct dangerous driving behaviour and encourage good road habits.

Motorists who have accumulated half or more of their maximum demerit points will receive a letter from Nov 4 inviting them to attend the SDC.

Those who complete the SDC will have three demerit points cancelled from their records.

Demerit points can only be cancelled from records twice in each motorist's lifetime.

Those who choose not to attend the course will continue to have demerit points held against their driving record for the stipulated period.

The SDC consists of a theory session that lasts for 3.5 hours, and a practical session that lasts for half an hour. It will be conducted by the three licensed driving schools: ComfortDelGro Driving Centre, Singapore Safety Driving Centre, and Bukit Batok Driving Centre.
