Crime prevention roadshow targeted at the elderly

Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) held its first "Silver Watch Group Crime Prevention Road Show" at Radin Mas Community Club on Sunday.

The roadshow was organised to educate residents, especially the elderly, on crime prevention. The event is part of the Silver Watch Group (SWG) Programme.

The SWG programme is a joint Community Safety and Security Programme (CSSP) by the Bukit Merah East NPC targeting elderly residents in the Chinatown, Jalan Bukit Merah and Radin Mas estates. It was officially launched on March 18 last year.

The programme seeks to impart elderly residents with crime prevention knowledge.

At Sunday's event, there were exhibition booths set up by many organisations such as the National Crime Prevention Council, Singapore Civil Defence Force and People's Association Emergency Preparedness Division.

There were also stage games to test their knowledge on crime prevention. A skit was put up by the National Crime Prevention Council on how to heighten one's awareness on theft cases.

The Silver Watch Group emblem was also officially launched at the roadshow.

Following this, certificates of appointment were presented to Silver Watch Group Ambassadors of Radin Mas District.

Mr Sam Tan, Member of Parliament for Radin Mas, graced the event. The roadshow is the first of three planned as part of the SWG programme.
