SINGAPORE - A traffic accident on the Pan-Island Expressway involving two vehicles led to congestion during the evening peak hours on Tuesday (Feb 20).

An eyewitness who gave his name only as Mr Maliki told The Straits Times that he was driving on the PIE towards Changi Airport at about 6.20pm when he saw the aftermath of the accident, which occurred between the Paya Lebar and Eunos exits.

Lanes 1 and 3 were closed as a result of the accident, said the 26-year-old delivery driver.

"I'm not sure if there were any casualties," said Mr Maliki. Photos he provided show a white vehicle with its back smashed in and the glass knocked out of its rear windscreen.

Two other vehicles appear to have stopped on the side of the road in another photo he provided.

A spokesman for the Singapore Civil Defence Force told ST that it dispatched an ambulance at about 6.20pm. However, there were no reported injuries.

The Land Transport Authority said in a series of tweets on its traffic news Twitter channel that the accident caused congestion till the Central Expressway.

It advised motorists to avoid lanes 1 and 3.
