Youth arrested on suspicion of snatch theft in Jurong

SINGAPORE - A 17-year-old believed to have committed snatch theft has been arrested, the police said on Tuesday.

On the evening of Jan 26, an 82-year-old woman made a police report that her handbag, containing her personal belongings and valuables, had been taken by a man at Jurong Lake Park. He was last seen running towards Tah Ching Road.

Police arrested the suspect on Monday. The victim's mobile phone was also recovered from him.

He will be charged in Court on Wednesday. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to seven years, and caning.
