Three passers-by help detain 16-year-old for robbing man of camera in Bedok

SINGAPORE - A 16-year-old has been arrested for robbing a 58-year-old man of his camera in Bedok. He was detained with the assistance of three passers-by.

The suspect is believed to have punched the victim at 2.41am on Sunday (May 14) and taken his camera.

He had met the victim to buy his camera along Bedok Road.

Three passers-by - Mr Chan Seang You, Ms Kammy Goh Kai Xian and another unnamed woman - noticed the commotion and chased the suspect.

Together, the trio detained the teenager and handed him to the police.

The police in their news release on Monday (May 15) said the passers-by played an important role in the speedy arrest of the suspect.

Investigations against him are ongoing.

If convicted of the offence of robbery, he can be jailed for two to 10 years and receive at least six strokes of the cane.

For a robbery committed after 7pm and before 7am, an offender can be jailed three to 14 years and receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
