At least 463,232 packets of illegal cigarettes have been seized this year, some hidden in ventilation fans, mattresses and even Chinese God of Fortune figurines, or under packets of snacks like popcorn.
The latest seizure on Dec 21 involved 996 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes, which were uncovered under the floorboard of a Malaysia-registered lorry carrying a cargo of granite.
