Manager fined $5,000 for attempting to take upskirt photo of woman in lift

SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old manager at Cycle and Carriage was on Tuesday fined $5,000 for attempting to take an upskirt photograph of a woman in the lift of an Hougang block.

The court heard that on the morning of July 14 last year, the victim entered a lift from the sixth floor. Yeo Chi Sian was already inside. She stood in front of Yeo, with her back facing him.

As the lift went down, she turned around to find Yeo bending down with a handphone between her legs.

Yeo rushed out of the lift on the ground floor.

In mitigation, defence lawyer Louis Joseph said Yeo had been suffering from severe depression and stress. Citing a medical report by a consultant psychiatrist at Raffles Hospital, Mr Joseph said Yeo had "lost his composure and impulsively committed the alleged offence" due to the stress built up from the health problems of Yeo's twin sons and wife.

This is his first offence.

For intending to insult the modesty of a woman, Yeo could have been jailed for up to one year and fined.
