Man who allegedly extorted victim with threat to release compromising photos arrested

SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old man believed to be involved with extorting money has been arrested.

His victim, a 42-year-old woman, lodged a police report in September. She had gone into a relationship with the suspect early this year. When they ended the relationship recently, the suspect allegedly demanded money in exchange for not posting compromising photos of the victim online.

The suspect was arrested at Geylang Lorong 37 on Nov 5. He will be charged with extortion on Nov 7. If convicted, he faces a jail term of between two and 10 years with caning.

The same man is also believed to be involved in another case of criminal breach of trust as a servant involving $68,000 that was reported in January.
