Man nabbed on suspicions of committing five obscene acts in public in Jurong East

SINGAPORE - A 38-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicions of committing five cases of obscene acts in public near Jurong East Street 21.

The police said in a media statement on Tuesday - without providing any details on what the obscene acts entailed - that the latest report was lodged by a female victim on June 26 at about 10.50pm. But the suspect fled by the time police arrived. This follows another case reported a month earlier at the same location, in which he was said to have fled on a bicycle after committing the act.

Using descriptions provided by the victims, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted "intensive ground enquiries and operations" to nab the culprit, who is expected to be charged in court on Wednesday for committing an obscene act in public.

The crime is punishable under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum punishment of three months' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
