SINGAPORE - A jobless man issued a summons ticket for littering crumpled it up and threw it in an auxiliary police officer's face - an offence which landed him in jail on Tuesday (Feb 13).

Mohamed Hafidz Kamaldin, 32, was seen throwing a cigarette butt into a drain on Desker Road by Lance Corporal Lee Sin Nie, but when she and her partner approached him he claimed he had thrown it into a rubbish bin.

The National Environment Agency enforcement officers asked him for his particulars but he denied littering and walked away. Miss Lee called the police.

He later said he would go to Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre but when they got there he became upset with Ms Lee as she took down his particulars from his driving licence, saying she had no right to do so.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Dora Tay told the court that police officers tried to calm Hafidz down and he accepted the summons ticket - but then crumpled it up and threw it at Ms Lee's face as she was trying to explain to him his offence.

He pleaded guilty to using criminal force on the 32-year-old Certis Cisco auxiliary police officer on May 25 last year and was jailed for two weeks.

Hafidz, who had a second charge of disorderly behaviour taken into consideration, could have been jailed for up to four years and/or fined for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.
