SINGAPORE - A Malaysian national who filmed a housemate in the shower with his mobile phone was jailed for four weeks on Monday.
Francois Tan Vien Weyn, 24, admitted to one of four charges of intruding into the privacy of the 24-year-old woman by recording a video of her in the shower at a flat in the west on March 19 last year.
A district court heard that Tan was sharing the HDB flat with five others, including the complainant.
He had been viewing voyeurism pornography. Over time, he was not satisfied with merely viewing pornography and decided to take videos of the complainant while she was showering, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Jason Chua.
He placed his iPhone in a cabinet underneath the sink in the en suite bathroom within her bedroom.
Whenever the complainant returned home, he would place the phone at that spot as he knew she would use the bathroom to shower.
He managed to capture at least nine minutes of her showering on March 19 last year.
On June 1 the same year, he tried to film her showering again. But her friend found the mobile phone. The next day, one of the housemates confiscated Tan's electronic devices and the complainant subsequently reported the matter to the police.
He could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined for the offence.
