SINGAPORE - A 23-year-old man, who had sex with two underaged girls, was jailed for 26 months on Friday (May 27).

Jumono Saman, who faced nine charges - including attempted sexual penetration of a minor - pleaded guilty to three charges.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eunice Lau said investigations showed that Jumono, then 21, befriended a 15-year-old girl on WhatsApp some time before September 2014.

In September, she visited him on the day he was discharged from hospital and they left together. They then decided to enter into a relationship.

About a week later, she accompanied him to hospital to get a medical certificate. He was supposed to be at camp as part of his national service duties.

They went to his home in Jurong West. He started to kiss and touch her all over and asked her persistently to go into his mother's room. She declined initially but later gave in to him.

She was shocked when he had sex with her and told him she did not want to continue. She later left the flat.

Four days later, she met him after school. They took a bus to Woodlands interchange. During the journey, he tried to kiss her but she refused. He then forcefully kissed her on her lips.

When they alighted, he told her that she had to do something for him as she had made him unhappy. He led her to a handicapped toilet at Woodlands Civic Centre where he sexually abused her.

Before parting, the girl told him that she did not want to engage in such sexual acts with him any more. Her father found out that she had engaged in sexual acts and reported to the police in November that year.

Earlier in 2013, Jumono had met a 13-year-old through a mutual friend. They later entered into a relationship.

The girl ran away from home on July 16 that year and stayed over at Jumono's flat. That night, they had unprotected sex.

Four days later, Jumono and the victim left the unit after he had quarrelled with his brother. The two stayed in a tent at West Coast Park for about a week until they were approached by social workers from the Ministry of Social and Family Development. The matter was referred to the police.

Jumono could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined for each charge of sexual penetration of a minor.
