SINGAPORE - A freelance production stage manager was jailed for 12 months on Wednesday (April 27) for having sex with a 14-year-old girl at a HDB staircase landing four years ago.

Sazali Hussain, 31, pleaded guilty to having sex with a girl under 16 with her consent at a block in Choa Chu Kang sometime in 2012.

The court heard that Sazali, then 28, came to know the Secondary 2 student over a social media platform that year. They communicated with each other on WhatsApp for a few weeks before deciding to meet up.

He picked her up on his motorcycle near her home one day, and rode to the Choa Chu Kang Park Connector where they chatted for a while.

Both then went to a petrol station where he fuelled up his motorcycle. He then parked it at a nearby multi-storey carpark. They proceeded to a HDB residential block nearby and had sex at a staircase landing.

After the incident, they met a few more times but did not have sex again.

Sazali did not verify the girl's age before having sex with her.

The girl, now 17, revealed to the police on July 2 last year that she had had sex with some men when she was below 16.

Sazali could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
