Man investigated for falsely reporting robbery to police

SINGAPORE - A 23-year-old man is currently being investigated for allegedly lodging a false report, said the Singapore Police Force in a news release on Friday (May 19).

The man had lodged a police report on April 14 alleging that four unknown men had assaulted and robbed him of his cash before fleeing.

After detecting several inconsistencies during the course of investigations for the alleged robbery, officers from the Jurong Police Division established that he had provided false information to the police.

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted for giving false information to a public servant is liable to be punished with up to a year's imprisonment, a fine of up to $5000 or both.
