SINGAPORE – A man appeared in a district court on Nov 21 after he allegedly rained blows on a 71-year-old man, causing multiple head injuries and fractures.

Mohamed Serajudeen Mohamed Yusoff, 31, was charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the elderly man.

Court documents did not disclose the reasons behind the alleged attack.

The Singaporean is accused of punching and kicking the elderly man’s head multiple times at Block 151 Serangoon North Avenue 2, shortly before 4pm on Nov 19. The victim was taken to the hospital after the attack.

Police said on Nov 20 that based on preliminary investigations, the two men did not know each other.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established Serajudeen’s identity with the help of images from CCTV and police cameras.

He was arrested in the vicinity of Hougang Street 91 on Nov 20, said a police spokesperson.

Serajudeen’s case will be mentioned again in court on Nov 28.

For voluntarily causing grievous hurt, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned.
