SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 38-year-old man who is believed to have robbed a woman along Sophia Road early Wednesday (June 8) morning.
The 21-year-old victim had lodged a police report that she was robbed of her clutch bag while walking home at about 2.55am.
She also alleged that the suspect, who was following her, had slapped and punched her before the robbery.
Her cries of help were heard by a passer-by, who chased the suspect and succeeded in detaining him along the same road, police said in a news release.
Police officers arrived at the scene soon after and the suspect was arrested, while the victim's bag and belongings were recovered.
If convicted of robbery with hurt, he could face a jail term of between five and 20 years and 12 strokes of the cane or more.
