SINGAPORE - An 80-year-old man was charged on Friday with the murder of his daughter-in-law.

Char Chin Fah is said to have caused Madam Ong Guat Leng's death between 9am and 10.04am on Thursday, at her home in Block 440, Tampines Street 43.

Said to be one of 13 children, Madam Ong, 54, was reportedly found dead by one of her daughters in a pool of blood inside a bedroom in the third floor flat.

Char was understood to have turned himself in. Wearing a red polo T-shirt, he looked calm and alert in court as the charge was read to him in Mandarin.

He has been remanded in Central Police Division for a week for further investigation, including being brought back to the scene of the alleged crime.

Char's case will be next heard in court next Friday. If convicted of murder, he faces the death penalty.
