SINGAPORE - The police have on Monday arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of car theft.

Earlier, the victim had discovered her car had gone missing from the carpark of a private residential compound at Fernhill Road, and made a police report at about 2.25pm.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Tanglin Division started their investigation to locate the vehicle. At about 4pm, patrol officers from Clementi Division spotted the car travelling along the Ayer Rajah Expressway.

During the pursuit, the driver abandoned the car along Commonwealth Avenue West and fled on foot. He was subsequently arrested at Clementi Avenue 3.

The suspect car thief will appear in court on Wednesday.

The police, in a statement, remind vehicle owners to adopt crime prevention measures such as parking their vehicle in well-lit areas, installing anti-theft alarm, and removing the ignition key and locking the vehicle whenever the vehicle is left unattended.
