Man, 41, arrested for shop theft in Jurong East

SINGAPORE - A 41-year-old man suspected of being involved in a series of shop theft cases in Jurong East has been arrested by the police.

On Monday morning, the police received a report of a shop theft at a Jurong East shopping mall.

Officers from the Jurong East Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) studied CCTV footage and conducted ground enquiries and checks in the area.

They established a common subject from the videos and disseminated the picture to NPC officers, who spotted the suspect the same evening.

Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect is believed to be involved in seven other theft cases, amounting to about $1,000 stolen.

The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday for shop theft. The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years jail, a fine, or both.
