SINGAPORE - A 23-year-old man suspected of stealing a vehicle was arrested on Wednesday (Sept 7), police said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 8).

The arrest followed a report by another 23-year-old that on the evening of Aug 15 his motorcycle had gone missing from an open air carpark beside Block 529 Bedok North Street 3. He had forgotten to remove his keys from the ignition.

Police recovered the missing vehicle at Peck Seah Street on Aug 18.

Through ground inquiries and with the help of police cameras, officers from Bedok Division identified the suspect and arrested him at Pasir Ris Street 71 on Wednesday.

The offence of theft of a motor vehicle is punishable with a prison term of up to seven years and a fine.

In the same statement, police advised all motorcycle owners to adopt crime prevention measures such as removing the ignition key from one's vehicle, parking one's motorcycle in well-lit areas, installing an anti-theft alarm, using a canvas to cover the vehicle and using additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or installing suspension guards.
