SINGAPORE - A man who molested a 20-year-old woman on a bus was jailed for two weeks on Friday (Feb 2).

Myanmar national Kyaw Kyaw Khaing, 36, a land surveyor, pleaded guilty to squeezing the woman's buttock and holding her waist on board SMRT bus 858 along Woodlands Avenue 9 on Oct 18 last year.

The court heard that the woman was searching for her EZ-link card and standing near the card reader when Kyaw Kyaw boarded. He squeezed her buttock and as he walked past, he held her around her waist.

She shouted at Kyaw Kyaw who alighted from the rear door and fled.

The woman reported feeling shocked and was consoled by other female passengers.

Kyaw Kyaw was traced and arrested on Nov 6.

Pleading for leniency, Kyaw Kyaw said he was very remorseful and wished to apologise to the victim.

He could have been jailed for up to two years, fined, caned or received any combined punishment.
