SINGAPORE - A hawker assistant was jailed for five months on Thursday for rubbing himself on a woman inside a Light Rail Transit (LRT) cabin.
Mohamed Rosen Allapitchay, 55, admitted to molesting the 24-year-old technical executive when the LRT was travelling between Cove and Meridian LRT station at about 9.50pm on April 24 this year.
Both were on their way home and on board the same LRT that evening when the victim felt something touching against her buttocks. She tried to move away.
As she did so, she turned and saw Rosen standing on her left, and realised he was the guy who was initially standing behind her.
She took one step forward to avoid contact. Again, she felt something touching her buttocks.
She moved forward again and the same thing happened. She felt offended and outraged at his intentional actions, the court heard.
She alighted at Cove Edge station and lodged a report the next day at Punggol Neighbourhood Police Centre.
Rosen was subsequently arrested. He admitted that he rubbed the front part of his body towards the victim's back and buttock area and "felt satisfied".
Rosen had a previous conviction for molestation last year and was jailed for three months.
The number of molestation cases on board public transport rose from 154 in 2013 to 164 last year.
He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for the offence.
