SINGAPORE - An Australian traveller, who flew off in 2023 after she allegedly stole a bottle of perfume at a Changi Airport shop,

was charged with theft on April 4

following her return to Singapore in March 2025.

Raj Varsha, 35, is accused of stealing a bottle of Chanel perfume worth $248 from a Shilla Duty Free store at Changi Airport Terminal 1’s departure transit area shortly after 4am on March 22, 2023.

She is expected to plead guilty on April 16.

Police said in a statement on April 3 that they were alerted to the case on March 23, 2023.

A police spokesperson added: “Through ground inquiries and with the aid of images from (CCTV cameras), officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the woman.

“However, the woman had left Singapore on a flight after she purportedly committed the crime.”

According to the statement, Raj returned to Singapore on March 31, 2025, and was arrested soon after.

Offenders convicted of theft can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
