Ex-spouse cannot be 'general insurer' for divorcee seeking higher payout, says judge

SINGAPORE - A judge rejected a divorcee's bid to raise the monthly maintenance due from her former spouse from $10 a month to $3,500 a month, making clear that a former spouse cannot serve as a general insurer for her.

The woman sought the variation after some 12 years had passed, citing her increased expenses and reduced pay.
