SINGAPORE -A 47-year old drink stall helper, who molested a teenager on a public bus last month was on Wednesday (Aug 17) jailed for three months.

Affendi Amin pleaded guilty to one charge of outrage of modesty.

A community court heard that the victim, a 13-year-old Secondary 2 student, boarded bus service number 69 in Tampines at about 8.30pm on July 11.

The teenager, who cannot be named to protect his identity, sat in the middle of the seat at the back of the bus.

Shortly after, Affendi boarded the bus along Bedok Reservoir View and sat to the left of the boy.

He began moving his body towards the victim, and stroked the teenager's shoulder and back.

The victim told Affendi to stop, but he moved his hand to the upper front part of the student's body instead.

The teenager then went to tell the bus captain about the molestation, and he stopped the bus along Bedok North Avenue 3 and called the police.

While waiting for the police, Affendi tried to touch the boy again, but the bus captain stopped Affendi.

"(Affendi) admitted to the (acts of molestation) and asserted that he committed them as he thought the victim was handsome and (he) felt 'shiok' (enjoyable) after doing so," Deputy Public Prosecutor Sruthi Boppana told the court.

She added that Affendi has mild intellectual disability, and had committed the crime out of "simplistic temptation", although this did not affect his ability to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions.

Affendi, who has been taking anti-psychotic medication since 2012, has a string of convictions, including one for outrage of modesty in July 1992.

His sentence was backdated to July 13.

The maximum punishment for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a person below 14 is five years' jail, a fine and caning.
