Couple in Woodlands murder case remanded for psychiatric observation

SINGAPORE - The couple who allegedly murdered their flatmate at their Woodlands home last Monday have been remanded for psychiatric assessment.

Pua Hak Chuan, 35, and housewife Tan Hui Zhen, 31, are represented by Mr Josephus Tan, Mr Fong Wei Li and Ms Gloria Lee from Fortis Law Corporation.

The duo are said to have caused the death of Ms Annie Ee Yu Lian, 26, a waitress, at their third-floor unit at Block 878, Woodlands Avenue 9, at 9.38am on April 13.

Tan's family members engaged counsel on Tuesday to act for the couple.

Ms Ee, who was working in a Japanese restaurant at Causeway Point, was found lying on a mattress in a bedroom of the flat by paramedics.

On Wednesday, Mr Tan was allowed a brief moment to speak to his clients after the prosecution applied for them to be remanded for psychiatric assessment.

Pua and Tan will be held at the Complex Medical Centre and Changi Women's Prison respectively.

The case will be mentioned again on May 13.
