SINGAPORE - The authorities nabbed 91 suspected drug offenders in an islandwide operation, with a four-year-old girl discovered in a Chin Swee Road "drug den" with her mother and within reach of sachets of Ice (methamphetamine).
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) conducted raids with the support of the Singapore Police Force from last Saturday (June 2) to Thursday.
Officers covered areas such as Bishan, Bukit Batok, Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Marsiling, Punggol, Tampines, Teck Whye and Toa Payoh, CNB said in a statement on Friday.
About 48g of Ice, 12g of heroin, 32g of cannabis, 23 Ecstasy tablets, 1g of ketamine, 1g of cocaine, 55 Erimin-5 tablets and three LSD stamps were seized.
In one of the cases during the operation, CNB officers raided a unit in the vicinity of Chin Swee Road on Tuesday. There, they nabbed a total of six drug offenders.
Two of them - a 29-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man - were suspected of trafficking drugs. Both are Singaporeans.
Four suspected drug abusers were also caught in the unit, including a 28-year-old Malaysian man.
The remaining three are Singaporeans - a 22-year-old woman, a 29-year-old man and a 31-year-old man.
About 26g of Ice, a digital weighing scale and some improvised drug-smoking apparatus were recovered from within the unit, CNB said.
During the raid, officers found the 22-year-old woman's daughter, who is four, with her.
"CNB officers noted that sachets of Ice were strewn around the unit, within possible reach of the child," the statement said.
CNB has worked with the Ministry of Social and Family Development to ensure that the girl is placed under the care of an immediate family member. It added that she is supported in the community with services.
Investigations into the drug activities of all the arrested people are ongoing, CNB added.
In February, a one-year-old boy was rescued from suspected drug traffickers after his caregiver left him in their care.
The toddler's caregiver, a 33-year-old Singaporean woman, was nabbed by officers around Kinta Road near Farrer Park MRT station, after she was found with a bag containing drugs.
His biological mother, who was on the run, has since been arrested. She was four months pregnant and had tested positive for drugs.
