SINGAPORE - A 29-year-old man was jailed for 10 weeks on Wednesday for having paid sex with an underaged girl.

Danny Wang Ting Wei, who was working in a construction company, is the 50th man to be dealt with and the 48th to be convicted out of the 51 men first hauled to court three years ago.

Two have been acquitted and most of the others were jailed between 10 and 12 weeks each for similar offences.

He admitted to paying $650 for the sexual services of a 17-year-old social escort, who was working for pimp Tang Boon Thiew, on Jan 6, 2011.

Tang, 41, who is serving 58 months' jail and was fined $90,000 two years ago on 20 vice-related charges, began running the online vice ring in 2010.

The minor, who is now 22, was described on the website as an 18-year-old polytechnic student. She started working for Tang some time in September 2010.

Some time in late 2010, Wang came across the website. After seeing the minor's profile, he sent Tang a text message on Jan 6, 2011 to book her for sex.

He later booked a room at Strand Hotel in Bencoolen Street. He informed Tang of the room number. Tang relayed the message to the girl who turned up and had sex with Wang in the room between 4.45pm and 7.26pm. He paid her $650 and did not verify her age.

Wang could have been jailed for up to seven years and/or fined for having paid sex with a person aged under 18 years.
