41-year-old man arrested for molesting woman near Buangkok MRT station

SINGAPORE - A 41-year-old man has been arrested for molesting a woman near Buangkok MRT station.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, made a report at about 1.15am last Tuesday (Oct 17), saying she was molested by a man in that area.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division and the Public Transport Security Command conducted investigations and arrested the man near Buangkok MRT station on Monday.

Investigations are ongoing.

If found guilty of outrage of modesty, he can be jailed for up to two years, fined, caned, or a combination of the three penalties.

There were 1,168 cases of molestation reported between January and September, 194 cases, or 19.9 per cent, more than the same period last year, the police said in a statement on Sunday.

Of these, 152 occurred on public transport, while 76 were at public entertainment outlets.

On Monday, eight men were charged in court for various outrage of modesty cases.
