Man, 36, arrested for alleged housebreaking and theft by night

SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (June 27) for his alleged involvement in a series of housebreaking cases near Recreation Road.

Police received a report on Tuesday morning about a safe containing valuables which had been stolen from a unit along Recreation Road, said the police in a statement on Thursday.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division identified the man after follow-up investigations, and arrested him on Wednesday.

After preliminary investigations, the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases.

The man will be charged in court with housebreaking and theft by night.

If convicted, he will face jail time of between two and 14 years, and a fine.

Members of the public are advised to adopt measures to protect themselves from housebreaking, said the police.

Prevention measures include keeping large sums of cash in banks, and ensuring that all doors and windows are well secured.
