SINGAPORE - A 35-year-old man has been arrested for molesting a 25-year-old woman near Geylang.
The woman had made a police report around 9.30pm last Wednesday (Oct 18), saying she was molested by a man along Guillemard Road.
She had been near Lorong 12, Geylang, that morning when she was allegedly molested.
After investigations and with reference to police cameras, officers from Bedok Division identified the suspect.
He was arrested along Adam Road on Monday.
He will be charged with the offence of outrage of modesty. If convicted, he can be jailed up to two years, fined, caned, or a combination of the three penalties.
This is the latest in a string of reported molestation cases.
Earlier on Tuesday, the police said another man was arrested for molesting a woman near Buangkok MRT station. The 41-year-old man was arrested near the same station on Monday.
Also on Monday, eight men were charged in court for various outrage of modesty cases.
The number of molestation cases has risen.
There were 1,168 cases of molestation reported between January and September, 194 cases or 19.9 per cent more than the same period last year, the police said in a statement on Sunday.
