A 23-year-old man who had sex with two underage girls was jailed for 26 months yesterday.
Jumono Saman, who faced nine charges - including attempted sexual penetration of a minor - pleaded guilty to three of them.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Eunice Lau said investigations showed that Jumono, then 21 and doing his national service, befriended a 15-year-old girl on WhatsApp some time in 2014.
In September that year, the girl visited him on the day he was discharged after a hospital stay. They decided to enter into a relationship.
About a week later, Jumono took her to his flat in Jurong West, where he kissed and fondled her. He then had sex with her.
The girl did not want to continue and left after that.
Four days later, she met him after school and during a bus ride to Woodlands Interchange, Jumono attempted to kiss her. When she refused, he forcefully kissed her on her lips. When they alighted, he told her that she had to make up to him for agitating him.
He took her to a toilet for the handicapped at Woodlands Civic Centre and sexually abused her.
Before she left, she told him that she did not want to engage in sexual acts with him any more.
However, the girl's father found out about her sexual activities with Jumono and reported the matter to the police in November that year.
Earlier, in 2013, Jumono was involved with a 13-year-old he had met through a mutual friend. He entered into a relationship with the teen.
The girl ran away from home on July 16 that year and stayed over at Jumono's flat. That night, they had unprotected sex. Four days later, Jumono and the victim left the unit after a quarrel with his brother.
They then stayed in a tent at West Coast Park for about a week, until they were approached by social workers from the Ministry of Social and Family Development. The police were informed.
Jumono could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined for each charge of sexual penetration of a minor.
