A 23-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening for suspected outrage of modesty at a housing estate in Woodlands.
At about 6.35pm on Thursday, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly molested by the man, who had earlier tried to befriend her, at Woodlands Avenue 6.
She then immediately informed her father, who helped to keep a lookout for the man who was last seen at Woodlands Avenue 7.
The girl and her father spotted the man about 15 minutes later around the area. Together, with the help of three other members of the public, they detained the man.
The police was immediately notified and officers from the Jurong Police Division arrived and arrested the man.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim, commended the girl for being courageous in raising the alarm, and the members of public for their swift action in helping to detain the suspect.
He advised people who encounter such crimes to shout for help immediately to attract the attention of passers-by and seek help from them.
The victim should also take note of the suspect's physical description and call the police as soon as it is safe to do so, he added.
