21-year-old sports car driver arrested after evading police roadblock in Joo Chiat

SINGAPORE - A 21-year-old man driving a sports car without a licence on Monday night (Dec 12) allegedly reversed and drove against traffic to avoid a police roadblock.

The incident happened at about 11.20pm on Monday near Joo Chiat Place, Shin Min Daily News reported on Tuesday (Dec 13).

The man was driving a yellow McLaren car, believed to be an MP4-12C Spider, a discontinued model.

Shin Min understands that the unidentified man was driving along Lorong 101 Changi when he noticed a roadblock ahead.

When spotted by the police, he reversed the vehicle for 40m and turned left onto Joo Chiat Terrace.

He then turned right onto Tembeling Road, driving against traffic, and right again at Joo Chiat Place.

He was eventually arrested at the junction of Joo Chiat Place and Joo Chiat Road after a five-minute car chase.

The police told The Straits Times on Tuesday that it conducted a roadblock along Lorong 101 Changi on Monday night.

A 21-year-old male driver was later arrested.

The Straits Times understands that the driver was arrested as he was driving without a licence and had tried to escape after being stopped at the roadblock.

Police investigations are ongoing.
