A police sergeant was found with a gunshot wound to his head in Bukit Timah Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) on Saturday morning, in an apparent suicide.

Police said in a statement released on Saturday evening that Sgt Sandeep Singh, 23, had reported for work at about 7am and had drawn his service revolver from the armoury.

About 40 minutes later, Sgt Sandeep was found with a gunshot wound to his head and his service revolver beside him in the toilet of the NPC. Sgt Sandeep who joined the force last year and has been working at the NPC since January this year, was pronounced dead at Alexandra Hospital at about 8.30am.

Police have classified the case as unnatural death and are investigating. No foul play is suspected.
