Community museum opens in Taman Jurong, part of Living Art, Loving Culture campaign

Residents in Taman Jurong can look forward to Singapore's first community museum opening in their neighbourhood this Saturday.

Called Our Museum@Taman Jurong, it is made up of three steel panelled shipping container style modules and features collaborative video and mural work between local residents and artists, as well as 'home' themed works from the collection of the Singapore Art Museum, which curates the museum.

The museum is part of the Living Art, Loving Culture campaign which aims to make art more accessible in the heartlands as well as celebrate their neighbourhood's culture and heritage.

Said local resident and history teacher Stacey Low, 38, now a guide for the museum: "It's dismantling the idea that museums are only for the high brow." Admission to the museum is free.
