Community effort to mark bicentennial

Events to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of modern Singapore next year must be a community effort, said Social and Family Development Minister Desmond Lee.

Mr Lee, who co-chairs the Ministerial Steering Committee for the Singapore Bicentennial, said it will "consult widely" with its advisory panel.

"It cannot be a top-down commemoration," he said.
