SINGAPORE - The United States and Singapore navies re-affirmed relations on Thursday, as the commander of the US Pacific Fleet called on Singapore's Defence Minister.

The US fleet commander, Admiral Harry Harris, visited Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, he had also met Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng, and Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral Lai Chung Han.

Admiral Harris is in Singapore for a two-day work trip from Wednesday to Thursday.

In a statement, Mindef said: "The Republic of Singapore Navy and the US Pacific Fleet interact regularly through a wide array of activities including visits, professional exchanges and bilateral and multilateral exercises."

"These extensive interactions have enhanced the professionalism and inter-operability of the two navies, and helped bolster mutual understanding and friendship between their personnel."
