CNB and ICA intercept 4kg of Ice worth $800,000 at Changi Airport

A man from Ghana was arrested with what is believed to be the largest haul of crystal methamphetamine this year.

The synthetic drug is better known by its street name, Ice.

The 35-year-old was nabbed on Friday night at Changi Airport after he was caught with 4kg of Ice, with a street value of almost $800,000, the largest haul since last September when 6.7kg of the drug was seized.

Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers had searched the suspect's backpack and found two bundles of the illegal drug, said the bureau and the Immigration Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a joint statment on Saturday.

More of the drug, was found after they searched his luggage.

Investigations are ongoing and the man may face the death penalty if convicted.
