Like many tourists from China, Ms Yang Jing, 25, made sure to stop at the Merlion for a selfie when she was in Singapore for a two-day trip on Monday.

It was her first time here, and she travelled with her friend, Ms Liu Yi, also 25. The two media professionals from Beijing said they were not part of a tour group.
