Chinese tourist, 15, dies after pool incident

A 15-year-old tourist from China is said to have died at Tan Tock Seng Hospital last Friday, three days after a drowning incident at a five-star hotel.

A report by Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao said the teenager was seen struggling in the swimming pool at Shangri-La Hotel last Wednesday evening.

It is believed the hotel's security officers rushed to his aid, pulled him out of the pool, and tried to revive him using CPR.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman told The Sunday Times last night that the SCDF received a call for assistance last Wednesday at 8.35pm.

Upon arrival, paramedics found the teenager unconscious and rushed him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was believed to have died.

His body was cremated yesterday after a short wake.

Police are investigating.
