Childcare abuse case: NTUC First Campus dismisses teacher in incident

NTUC First Campus has dismissed the 51-year-old teacher from My First Skool at Blk 192 Toa Payoh, with immediate effect, following an injury caused to a child under the teacher's care.

The teacher was arrested on Sunday for allegedly mistreating a three-year-old child by dragging him across the floor and pushing him onto the ground last Friday.

In a statement on Monday, NTUC First Campus said it met the teacher to "give the teacher an opportunity to explain" what happened on July 5. She has acknowledged that her actions were "inappropriate and has accepted the dismissal".

On Monday morning, NTUC First Campus chief executive Chan Tee Seng and My First Skool general manager Adeline Tan met a group of parents to answer queries and to address their concerns. Two parents said they have filed police reports. NTUC First Campus said it assured the parents that it will fully cooperate with the police in these investigations.

Additional parent engagement sessions are also being planned for the rest of the parents from the class.

Senior early childhood specialists from NTUC First Campus's headquarters have also been deployed to support the teachers in the playgroup class to ensure the well-being of the children, and external professional counsellors have been engaged to provide emotional support to staff who have been affected by this incident.
