Organisation: Singapore Press Holdings (SPH)

Incorporated in 1984, main board-listed Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) is Asia’s leading media organisation, engaging minds and enriching lives across multiple languages and platforms, ranging from print, digital, radio and out-of-home media.

Students who take up the SPH Journalism Scholarship (Masters) can pursue a degree in all fields of study except in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, architecture and law.

Applicants should have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in the second class upper for a local sponsorship and in first class for an overseas sponsorship. They should also have strong language skills, leadership qualities and a strong interest in a writing career. 

Applicants must be Singapore Citizens. The typical deadline for application is in April.

Organisation: Tan Kah Kee Foundation

Mr Tan Kah Kee was a well-known philanthropist and an outstanding Chinese leader in Southeast Asia. The mission of the Foundation is to foster his spirit in entrepreneurship and dedication to education. 

The foundation offers three postgraduate scholarships. The Tan Kah Kee Postgraduate Scholarship is open to anyone pursuing a PhD or Master's degree. 

The Tan Ean Kiam Postgraduate Scholarship in Humanities, as suggests, funds students pursuing a degree in fields relating to the Humanities.

The Li Siong Tay Postgraduate Scholarship seeks to encourage Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents to pursue their Master's or PhD degrees in fields relating to the Education and Arts.

Applicants must be Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents. They should have outstanding grades, be effectively bilingual and have a record of sustained commitment to serving the community. 

Successful applicants will each receive a one-off sum of S$12,000 for studying in the university. All scholarships do not carry any bond. The scholarships are given out once a year, and successful applicants may re-apply annually.

It is a bond-free scholarship. The typical deadline is in May.

Organisation: Singapore Management University 

Singapore Management University (SMU) is an autonomous university in Singapore. The university provides an American-style education modelled after the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

SMU’s Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship is open to those who are interested in courses ranging from Accountancy to Social Sciences. A full list of courses is available on the website. Applicants should hold already have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant fields. 

Applicants should have an excellent academic record along with a high degree of proficiency and motivation for a research area that is aligned with SMU’s core areas of excellence. They should also have an interest in an academic career at SMU.

Scholars will each be assigned an SMU faculty mentor throughout their course of study and have opportunities to participate in faculty development programmes.

It is a bonded scholarship that is tenable for a period of five years. Those interested can apply any time throughout the year but candidates are advised to submit them at least nine months prior to the intended commencement date of the postgraduate programme..

Organisation: The National Arts Council 

The National Arts Council (NAC) champions the arts in Singapore. By nurturing creative excellence and supporting broad audience engagement, their diverse and distinctive arts inspire people, connect communities and profile Singapore internationally. 

Applicants should be interested in pursuing a full-time arts and arts-related Master’s or Doctorate degree programme in countries approved by the agency. A list of more detailed courses is available on the website. 

 The scholarship sponsors up to 90 per cent of total costs, subject to a maximum of $110,000.

Applicants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents who possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications.

Organisation: Singapore Land Authority  

The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Law whose mission is to optimise land resources for the economic and social development of Singapore. 

The Singapore Geospatial Scholarship Postgraduate (Masters) Scholarship is open to students seeking to study a geospatial or a geospatial-related course in a reputable overseas university. A more detailed list of courses is available on the website. 

Applicants should be medically fit Singapore Citizens. Those applying for the full-term scholarship should possess a basic degree from a reputable university. Those applying for the mid-term scholarship should already be pursuing a geospatial-related postgraduate course abroad. 

Students who wish to apply for this and study locally will have to take a Master’s programme in Applied Geographic Information System.

It is a bonded scholarship with work attachments in participating public agencies of the scholarship. The typical deadline is two weeks after the release of the ‘A’ level results.

Organisation: Public Service Commission   

The Public Service Commission (PSC) safeguards the fundamental principles of integrity, impartiality, and meritocracy in the Singapore Public Service. 

The PSC Master’s Scholarship is tenable for up to two years of study at both overseas and local universities. The scholarship is not offered for MBA programmes, and the course of study should be in an area relevant to the work of the Civil Service, as approved by the PSC.

Applicants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents willing to take up Singapore Citizenship. They should also have strong leadership qualities and potential and good academic and CCA records. 

It is a bonded scholarship. Scholars will also have a chance to participate in development programmes in preparation for a career in the Civil Service. The typical deadline is in March.

Organisation: Agency for Science, Technology and Research

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) drives mission-oriented research that advances scientific discovery and technological innovation. 

The National Sciences Scholarship (NSS) is available for those who have applied or are applying for a PhD programme at a top global university.

Applicants must be Singapore Citizens or, if from other nationalities, intending to take up Singapore citizenship. They should also have a strong interest in a research career and have outstanding undergraduate results in relevant disciplines. They must also have sat for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) prior to, or during the course of their application, and obtain a certain minimum, as stated on the website.

Successful candidates are required to undergo a one-year research attachment at an A*STAR research institute prior to their PhD studies. 

It is a bonded scholarship. A*STAR accepts and processes applications throughout the year. However, priority will be given to applications that reach them by 1st April for admission to an overseas university in Fall the following year.

Organisation: Ministry of Health Holdings

Ministry of Health Holdings (MOHH) is the holding company for Singapore's healthcare institutions and aims to enhance public healthcare by unlocking synergies and economies of scale.

The Healthcare Graduate Studies Award is open to final year undergraduates or recent university graduates who are keen to pursue a Master’s degree in selected health science disciplines. They can study either locally or abroad. A full list is available on the website.

Applicants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents who will take up citizenship before embarking on their studies. They should also possess a good university degree or track record of work achievements and have a strong interest in a career in the public healthcare sector.

Candidates should also have obtained at least a 2nd Upper Honours degree in general disciplines to be eligible for the competitive Healthcare Graduate Studies Award.

It is a bonded scholarship that includes sponsorship for approved development programmes. The typical deadline for application is in May.

Organisation: Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA)

The IMDA develops and regulates the converging infocomm and media sectors in a holistic way, creating a dynamic and exciting sector filled with opportunities for growth, through an emphasis on talent, research, innovation and enterprise.

The Singapore Digital Scholarship is an industry scholarship that empowers individuals pursuing Infocomm Media (ICM) related studies at the Masters or PhD level.  

Individuals pursuing postgraduate studies in specialised ICM areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Analytics, Immersive Media, and Digital Content Creation are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should be enrolled full-time, part-time or current postgraduate in an ICM-related Masters programme, with a minimum of one academic year of study remaining from the point of award.

Applicants must be Singapore citizens and possess a strong interest in a career in the ICM industry. Male applicants must have completed National Service.

Organisation: Land Transport Authority

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Transport, which spearheads land transport developments in Singapore. As the agency responsible for planning, designing, building and maintaining Singapore’s land transport infrastructure and systems, they aim to bring about a greener and more inclusive public transport system, complemented by convenient options to walk and cycle from their homes or to their destinations. 

The LTA Masters scholarship is open to Singapore citizens, or Singapore Permanent Residents who take up Singapore citizenship before departure for studies. A good honours degree and good interpersonal and communication skills are also ideal in an applicant. 

Only students to pursuing their Masters degree in specialised areas are able to apply. A list of the available fields of studies are available on the LTA website.

The scholarship covers tuition and compulsory Fees, maintenance Allowance (including Book Allowance), hostel fees (for local students) and return economy/student airfare (for overseas scholars).

Organisation: National Library Board (NLB)

NLB promotes reading, learning and information literacy by providing a trusted, accessible and globally-connected library and information service through the National Library and a comprehensive network of Public Libraries.

The NLB Postgraduate Scholarship is open to those interested in fields that can advance library and archives development while growing domain expertise in various knowledge fields. These include Information Science, Geography, South East Asian studies and other courses listed on the website. Scholars can choose to study locally or abroad.

Applicants must be Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents who must attain Singapore Citizenship before the award of the scholarship. They should also have excellent academic and CCA records, possess at least a 2nd Upper Honours Degree and have strong leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and have a passion for learning and service.
