MORE than $150,000 was raised on the reception night of a charity photo exhibition by Mr Kwek Leng Joo, in aid of The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.
Earlier this month, Mr Kwek, managing director of property developer City Developments Limited, donated 18 of his photographs of rare and unique flowers to ChildAid, a charity concert in aid of the two funds to help students from low-income homes.
About a third of the photo collection was sold by the end of Wednesday night, with donations from Axis Architects, DBS, OCBC, Mr G. K. Goh and Mrs Winnie Tsao.
The exhibition was held at The Arts House at The Old Parliament from last Sunday to yesterday. About 120 guests attended yesterday's reception.
Mr Kwek took the photos this year at Gardens by the Bay and the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra.
The 59-year-old avid photographer said: "In serving on the committee of the S R Nathan Education Upliftment Fund, I came to learn that some students in affluent Singapore have little or no pocket money to buy food in school. I am glad to be able to lend a helping hand to the needy children by contributing my works to raise funds for them."
The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund helps needy school children with school-related expenses. The Business Times Budding Artists Fund provides funding to nurture the artistic talents of underprivileged children.
The two funds support about 10,300 students. This year's ChildAid concert will be held on Dec 7 and 8 at Marina Bay Sands.
