Changi Airport has closed a section of the Terminal 2 transit area after a ground-handling vehicle hit a pillar on Thursday morning.

The affected area is just above the pillar and will remain closed until the structure is repaired, Changi Airport Group said in response to queries from The Straits Times.

The closure is a safety precaution and to facilitate repairs. There is no danger to travellers and visitors and no impact on flight operations either. The closed section - about 900 sqm - is where several food kiosks are located.

The pillar was damaged when an airport vehicle used to tow planes crashed into it. No aircraft was being towed at the time.

It is believed the driver is an SIA Engineering staff member. He had minor injuries and was treated at the airport's clinic.
