Child abuse in families is on the rise in Singapore, said Big Love Child Protection Specialist Centre, and proposed changes to the law to mete out tougher penalties to abusers are just one way to tackle the growing number of cases.

The centre has seen the overall incidents of abuse by a family member climb to 367 cases between April 2017 and March this year, up from 252 cases in the April 2016 to March 2017 period and 177 cases in the same period the year before.
