A car flipped over in a tunnel on the Central Expressway (CTE) yesterday morning, causing the entrance near Merchant Road to be briefly closed to motorists.

The Land Transport Authority tweeted at about 10am about the accident in the tunnel in the direction of the Ayer Rajah Expressway, adding that the Merchant Road entrance was closed.

A video circulating on the Internet showed traffic slowing to a crawl in the tunnel as vehicles inched their way past the overturned car.

The car took up more than half of the lane.

Photos of the accident were also widely shared online, though the car driver was not seen in any of them.

The Straits Times understands that no one was hurt.
