Cabby fined, banned for causing grievous hurt to passenger of another vehicle

A taxi driver who encroached into the path of a motorist and caused grievous hurt to the car's front-seat passenger was fined $4,000 and banned from driving for 12 months on Friday.

Goh Kim Seng, 73, pleaded guilty to grievously hurting front-seat passenger Ms Tan Lan Eng, 25, by doing a negligent act to endanger life along Bukit Batok East Street 52 on Jan 24 last year.

He failed to give way to the car, driven by Mr Yang Zhihao 24, while making a right turn from Bukit Batok East Street 52 to Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, resulting in the collision.

The court heard that Mr Yang had the right of way as he was driving along the straight road along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5 at about 5.05am that day. The victim, Ms Tan, suffered fractures and head injuries. Goh could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
