From April 6, polytechnic students will finally be able to enjoy the same monthly concession pass prices as those in secondary schools, junior colleges and Institutes of Technical Education. It would mean savings of nearly 50 per cent per month for them.

At the same time, a new monthly unlimited travel pass for adult Singaporeans and permanent residents will also be introduced, at the price of $120 per month. Children under the age of seven will also get to travel for free.

Polytechnic students are not the only ones who will benefit from concessions in this latest fare review. All other student hybrid monthly concession passes will also be cheaper by between three and 12 per cent, while prices for NSF monthly concession passes will be lowered to the same price as that for university students, which translates to a reduction of 10 to 23 per cent.

By early next year, Singaporeans doing full-time studies in private institutions which offer secondary level and higher education will also enjoy student concessions.

The Public Transport Council announced a slew of new and better concessions on Thursday, along with a fare increase of 3.2 per cent.
