Burst water pipe causes part of Woodlands Road to cave in

A burst pipe caused a part of Woodlands Road near West View Primary School, toward the direction of the city, to cave in on Saturday night.

The affected section of the road has since been closed to traffic as work to repair the cave-in continued late into the night.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA), responding to queries from The Sunday Times, said: "At about 8pm on Saturday, a burst water pipe caused a localised depression on the road surface along a short stretch of Woodlands Road towards the city.

"To ensure the safety of motorists, both lanes were closed to traffic while works to resurface the road are carried out. LTA will monitor traffic situation and deploy traffic wardens to guide traffic flow."

This incident comes after a 2m-wide and 3m deep sinkhole appeared along Clementi Road on Mar 4. It reappeared four days after it was filled by the authorities.
